If you have the choice, get the one with the IS II lens. The Image stabilizer comes in handy when you don't have a tripod and taking night shots in low light. This limits blurring. Battery life is awesome. Charges quickly and comes with everything you need to start shooting right away. A little tip: get the 50-250mm IS lens as a secondary lens.

I am a professional photographer with over 15 years using Hassleblads, Large format and other big camera's. I now also teach photography via my company Studio Time Ltd in London, so every week I get to see students camera's which are from a variety of manufactures. A lot of people buy the new range of 4 thirds interchangeable lens cameras, which are so tricky to use, and don't deliver the best picture quality. Plus the cost of these cameras and the lens is way over priced. Also the smaller frame size of the 4 thirds system means shallow depth of field is hard to create.

We needed something light, inexpensive and compatible with our existing Canon lenses and flash guns. So the 1100D with a lens for around the £400 mark was ideal. We have been shooting with the camera now for a month and the quality and operation of the camera is spot on. Delivering great picture quality, easy of use, and reliability. We have even started using it on low budget event photography jobs.

We did just have one problem with it, but this was caused by a member of staff playing with all the options. We lost the ability to have Auto focus in the P, Tv, Av and Manual modes. This was simple rectified by a quick to Canon who told us to clear all the custom functions in each of those modes, problem solved.

If you got below £500 to spend on a entry level digital camera that you can progress with then buy the Canon EOS 1100D, ef-s lenses are plentiful and easy to get hold of new and old, plus Canon's menu system is one the easiest to use. That's why Studio Time only use Canon.

Many years ago I dabbled with 35mm SLRs but eventually decided it took years of learning and expeimentation to get good results and frankly got very frustrated. Since then I pretty much stayed in the "point and shoot" world. A few years ago I bought a "bridge" digital camera and the fact that the images were instantly accessible changed things completely. I've since grown out of the bridge camera and on the recommendation of a mate who is a professsional photographer, I now own a Canon EOS 1100D. I did look at the previous model (EOS 1000D)which can now be had for a heavilly discounted price however the range of possibilities and the quality of images produced by Canon's latest offering, even just using it in "auto" mode are an astonishing improvement. I have no hesitation in recommending this camera as a really useful beginning for anyone thinking about upping their game from the point and shoot brigade. There is an impressive range of lenses and other accessories available but the standard EFS 18-55 covers most situations well. I have ordered the new EOS 1100D for Dummies handbook which will be out on 6th June. A whole summer to photograph ahead!

Bought this a replacement for my previous Canon Powershot, which took several years and some kicking around to kill.

Unlike its aluminium predecessor this one looks cheap and nasty by comparison - black plastic, and AA batteries instead of rechargeable battery pack.

That's the downside dealt with. Double the pixels, much larger view screen, much more intuitive interface. Spend half an hour reading the manual (give it a try - it's worth it) and you'll see what you can get out of it by switching it to manual programming. For the money it's great even though it looks like a disposable. Oh yes, one more complaint: the old model had a viewfinder as well as a screen - very helpful, especially in bright conditions where you can't always see the screen well enough to frame your shot: one feature that would vastly improve this version.

Having said all that, this was a no-regrets purchase. I'm amazed they can do it for the money.

For the price the camera is very good for normal everyday snap shots in good conditions - where the light is failing it struggles and the picture tends to be a little noisy - switch the flash on and this give very adequate light and reproduces a well illuminated picture.
The controls are straight forward and easy to use either on auto or on manual .The colour reproduction is true and the image is sharp with the right amount of contract- very little manipulation is required after the picture has been taken in the computer. it will print straight from the camera.
Im happy with my powershot as it does what it says on the packet.

A480 is easy to use. Built-in face detection technology allows the camera to spot a face in the picture and alter focus and exposure settings with great results. I like the playback button, pressing this while the camera is off will switch it on and go straight into playback mode, where you can view your photos. Great camera and simple to use. Before this I had brought a Kodck C1013 which was such rubbish I returned it for refund which was no proble with Amazon .

Following a bit of research and after shopping around I decided to purchase the B+W +10 ND. I had read that it was a quality product and I wasn't dissapointed! It arived on time and in perfect condition (as you would expect). The filter has a warm tone which works great for some images but can be easily be corrected in post processing if you are looking for a colder effect!! Here is a link to the first Pic I took with the filter attached [...] - Alwasy nice to see a sample I think!!

I bought this as a 90th birthday present and loaded a whole load of photos old and new on a USB stick and then loaded it on. I wanted a product with a large screen for the recipient so the images were easy to view and something simplistic to use. Having loaded the images, switched the product on and it started to cycle through effortlessly. One slight note of caution is that the first one I received did not work properly, however Amazon refunded and replaced with their usual speed and efficiency so it was not a big problem and the replacement worked fine.

I should also explain that I did not have time to fully explore the features of the frame as I only wanted it to show pictures, but it does feature an impressive array of features at first glance, speakers, SD slot, USB slot, internal memory built in. I suspect if you had the time to go through the instructions it would reward, however not for me as trying to explain all this to my elderly relative, would have taken some time!

Good product and having researched other alternatives of the same size, also good value.

Brilliant new SLR camera from Canon. I love using it. I upgrated from the 350D and wasn't sure that I wanted the articulated screen but I have found it very useful. I haven't really used the video as yet but I haven't had it very long and there is a lot to learn. To anyone hesitating about an SLR they are great and they are instant - no delay on the shutter and together with a standard & telephoto lens - what more could you want. Canon supply a very easy to follow instruction book with their SLR's. No need to read the lot in one go, just dip in and out to find out what you need to know. I spent the first 12months using the 350D on fully auto and then started to learn all the other modes and eventually started shooting in RAW as there is more control when adjusting anything. At the moment I use Photoshop Elements 8 but it doesn't recognise the 600D RAW files. If anyone knows if Elements 9 does, please let me know.
